My Approach to Therapy
Evidence-Based Approach
My therapy approach is calm, engaging, and individualised, with a strong focus on evidence-based practice. I have further training in evidence-based programs and interventions, including:
Project ImPACT – Supporting social communication and engagement for young children with autism and other social communication differences through parent coaching.
Hanen More Than Words – Helping parents of Autistic children support their child’s language development in natural settings.
Shape Coding – A visual system to teach grammar and sentence structure, designed for children with language difficulties.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) – Implementing communication systems to enhance expression and understanding, helping non-speaking or minimally speaking children communicate more effectively.
Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) – A research-based approach for treating childhood apraxia of speech, using tailored cues and gradual progression to improve speech clarity.
Play-Based Speech Therapy – Using child-led, engaging play to support language, speech, and social communication development in meaningful, natural interactions.
Home Practice and Parent Coaching
Home practice is an essential part of speech therapy. Regular practice at home reinforces new skills and accelerates progress. I provide families with practical, easy-to-follow exercises and recommendations tailored to their child's needs, such as fun speech sound games, interactive storytelling techniques, and simple communication prompts. These activities are designed to be engaging and manageable, making it easy for families to integrate practice into their daily lives.
A key component of my therapy approach for early intervention is parent coaching, empowering families to support their child's communication every day. Parents and caregivers play a vital role in a child's language development, and I guide them in using evidence-based strategies to enhance communication throughout daily interactions.
By embedding therapy into everyday activities — such as mealtimes, play, bath time, and outings — families have countless opportunities to support communication development in meaningful, natural ways. This approach ensures that progress extends beyond therapy sessions, creating continuous learning moments in a child’s real-world environment.
I strive to create a supportive and collaborative environment where children feel confident and families feel empowered to support their child’s communication development.
